Who Do You Think You Are?

The moment you feel the fear, you must do it to grow.
The anticipation much worse than doing it - Skiing in Cali

"Do just once what others say you can't do, and you will never pay attention to their limitations again."
James R. Cook
1728-1779, Naval Explorer

I just stumbled upon this quote and thought I'd share it. I absolutely love it.

So often we let other people define what we are capable of; resulting in that we not only deal with our own insecurities and vulnerabilities, but on top of that also allow other people - sometimes even strangers - to tell us our worth.

However, unless you have completely lost touch with reality and are about to commit Hybris, then it is simply their own shortcomings and insecurities they are projecting. It is a reflection of what that person is scared of or able to do and has little - if anything - to do with you.

Doing solo sports like skiing and surfing allows you to escape other people's limitations and push your own boundaries. Challenge yourself. Set goals and reach them - or if at first you don't, then you know that you only have yourself to blame. This is a great exercise that you are able to take with you in your daily life - understanding how ultimately you are in control of your life, and you can only change yourself. And once you realize this and take action - anything is possible. You are no longer the victim.

If you set your mind to it, you can do it. If you don't, you can't. Simple.
You are what you THINK you are.
